Nashville SC Players to Watch – Walker Zimmerman

Walker Zimmerman is a 6’3” centerback from the United States. Zimmerman was acquired on February 11, 2020 LAFC in the biggest trade in club history. Nashville sent a 2020 international roster spot along with $600,000 in 2020 GAM and $350,000 2021 GAM. There is also another $300,000 in GAM if he meets certain incentives. That would be record trade in MLS, more than the previous record of $1 million that Minnesota United sent to Sporting Kansas City for Ike Opara last year. Yes, it’s a ton to pay, but Gary Smith is clearly building a defensive team and Zimmerman checks all the boxes. Other than Hany Mukhtar, no player will determine the success of Nashville SC more than Zimmerman.

Zimmerman Proven MLS Quality

Zimmerman is one of the best centerbacks in MLS. He has been a mainstay for LAFC since arriving prior to the 2018 season, making 59 league, playoff and cup appearances while scoring five goals. He was an MLS All-Star and MLS Best 11 player last season. At 26, he’s just entering his prime. He has won the supporters’ shield twice and seen significant playing time for the USMNT over the past year making 12 appearances while scoring two goals. Obviously, he will be a starter and likely be one of the team leaders on and off the field. He should also be close to if not lead Nashville SC in minutes played this season if all goes according to plan.
