Nashville SC Players to Watch – Hany Mukhtar
No player will have bigger impact on the how much success Nashville SC has in not just its inaugural season, but to start the franchise than Hany Mukhtar. I guess that kind of goes without saying given he is the club’s first ever DP. Hany Mukhtar is a 5’8” 159 pound attacking midfielder from Germany. He was part of most German youth national teams all the way until the age of 21. Perhaps the highlight of his career was scoring the only and winning goal for Germany in the 2014 UEFA European Under-19 Championship final against Portugal. For the past three seasons Mukhtar has played for Brøndby IF of the Danish Superliga. He was considered one of the better players in the league, but there isn’t much history of players moving from Denmark to MLS. That is one big risk. The other is injury. He’s not the biggest person and missed numerous matches with a foot injury last year.
So the question is, will he translate to MLS. Not having a proven goal scorer will certainly make his life tougher. My answer to that is in Mike Jacobs we trust. Below is a good highlight video to give you a feel for the player. As you can see he is a pure 10. He can score, but should assist more goals than bags himself. If Mukhtar doesn’t a have good first season in MLS there is no way Nashville SC makes the playoffs. He’s that crucial. Mukhtar is also critical for intermediate term success. At 24, he will have sell on value if his first few years in MLS are productive. You can follow Mukhtar on Instagram @hanymuk10
