Nashville SC Pay $3 Million to Acquire DP Mukhtar

Updated 8/27/2019

Nashville SC made it official this morning. Even have a cool video of John Ingram, Mike Jacobs and Ian Ayre greeting Hany Mukhtar as he gets off Mr. Ingram’s private plane. The most interesting part of news was Nashville SC saying Mukhtar is their first ever DP signing. We previously assumed Accam would be a DP. Apparently the club is going to use TAM to pay down his contract. It will be interesting to see when salaries are released. It’s hard to find information on Mukhtar’s current wages, but I don’t expect him to make much more than Accam. But if Nashville sign two more DP’s, a couple TAM players and pick wisely in the expansion draft they should be able to contend for playoffs year 1. Ingram gave one of his favorite quotes, “We’re not coming to just participate, we’re coming to compete.” At least for today, that certainly looks to be the case. Now about that academy?

Nashville SC has agreed to pay a $3 million transfer fee to acquire German midfielder Hany Mukhtar from Danish club Brondby. It was first reported by B.T. Sport out of Denmark and has now been confirmed by The Athletic. In addition to the transfer fee, Nashville also had to pay Seattle Sounders $100,000 in general allocation money for his rights.

Mukhtar is a 24-year-old attacking midfielder. He has spent the last three seasons with Brondby in the Danish Superliga. He recorded seven goals and six assists in 29 appearances last season, but he hasn’t played yet this year due to a foot injury. He was excused from their last match while he finalized his deal with Nashville. Mukhtar has 22 goals and 27 assists in 94 career league matches for Brondby. Mukhtar’s biggest moment was scoring the winning goal in a 2014 U19 European Championship final for Germany.

I don’t know anything about Mukhtar. Below is a highlight video where he scores some nice goals. With the addition of Mukhtar as a DP, Nashville SC’s MLS roster is upto five players. This biggest question right now is whether or not David Accam is also DP or is he a TAM player. That will go a long way into telling how ambitious the club is going to be in year 1.
