Is Nashville SC Supporters Section, The Backline, Sold Out?
The first match in MLS for Nashville SC was a huge success selling 59,069 tickets versus Atlanta United. Other than the loss and Josef Martinez tearing his ACL it was a perfect night. The tailgates were long and lively, the pre game show highlighted the Music City at its best and the stadium atmosphere was tremendous. Certainly, the club should see a bump in ticket sales from the tens of thousands of fans likely getting their first taste of MLS.
So I decided to look at future home matches for the club at Nissan stadium and noticed something. There are plenty of tickets for sale on Ticketmaster in every section of the stadium expect one. The Supporter’s Section, called The Backline, only has resale tickets available for their next match versus Columbus on March 21. Look ahead to the next match after that versus the Seattle Sounders and it’s the same. In fact, for every match it appears The Backline is sold out. The section holds right around 4000. Nashville SC rarely has talked about season ticket sales, but clearly the surge that began late last year continued. There have been rumors of Twitter that season ticket sales were over 15,000 and a sold out supporters section would indicate this is probably true.
Personally, I thought Nashville SC attendance would be lower than other recent expansion teams. I wrote about it in November and the reasons why. As a native Nashvillian it’s nice to have been wrong.
